Committee of Management
There are seven members of the Committee of Management plus a secretary. The Committee members are elected at annual general meetings and serve terms of three years (although re-election for further terms is permitted). Because of early terminations of terms, over time the elections of individual positions on the Committee have become somewhat staggered. In any given year it is likely that at least one place on the Committee is up for contest. Nominations are sought ahead of the AGM.
The Chair is selected by Committee members and remains in that position throughout the length of his / her three year term (unless (s)he resigns or is replaced at the discretion of the wider Committee).
The Committee is responsible for the strategic governance of the Tōpū and the employment of staff. We are charged with realising the ambitions of the shareholders whom we represent (as expressed at AGMs and via other formal feedback), through the management of the Tōpū. Providing long-term benefits to our shareholders is the main drive for the Committee.
The Tōpū (and hence the Committee) must legally comply with the provisions of the Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993.
